“Moonshadow” a Cat Stevens cover

I got into Cat Stevens’ music in 2016 when I started working as a guitar-vocalist on cruise ships and was getting requests to play his songs. I’d heard “Wild World” before and a few others but didn’t realize how much fun they’d be to play. As a fellow acoustic guitarist, his songs really fit under my hands and the range of his voice seemed to suit mine just fine.

I’ve been practicing more instrumentals lately and wanted to focus on songs I already know how to play and sing, arranging them for solo guitar. I immediately thought of “Moonshadow” because part of the melody is built into the chord progression.

After some arranging/re-arranging I was able to fit the entire melody line into the chord progression without having to change the original key of D Major. I thought the result sounded nice and I was able to uncover a brand new arrangement by adding some fills and taking the melody down or up and octave for variety.

I recorded it on my Yamaha Silent Guitar and posted the video to Youtube here:

The response so far has been pretty good. I hope you enjoy it as well!

Musically,
